The gems in vogue in 2017
Every year has its trends but what about 2017? Although it’s still relatively early in the year, distinct trends are already emerging and shaping the current gem and jewellery scene. Read on to find out what is looking hot for the months ahead.
Pearls – one distinct trend that is emerging is pearls; this is something that has been picked up on by JOGS, who organise one of the biggest tradeshows in the United States.
As well as being striking, pearls are incredibly versatile and suitable for a variety of budgets. They can be worn in bracelets, necklaces, earrings, rings…
Popular colours for 2017 – JOGS also predict that blue will be big this year, so that means gemstones like sapphires and topaz are likely to be fashionable.
In addition, Pantone recently named greenery their colour of the year. This means that fresh yellow/green colours are likely to dominate throughout 2017 and you’ll see shades of green taking over the fashion industry.
The gemstones most often associated with green are emerald and jade, but why not try something more unusual like peridot, chrysoprase or tourmaline?
Coloured stones – pink and yellow gems – seem to be in demand, especially for engagement rings.
Bold and beautiful – striking colours like deep reds and charcoal black are guaranteed to get you noticed, and these can be diamond, ruby, red beryl, garnet, agate, onyx, jasper opal, zircon, cassiterite, moonstone and jet.
However, you’d need to have quite a budget for some of these gems. For instance, some of the more expensive black diamond rings can set you back thousands of dollars, but if you speak to a good gemmologist, you will always find a way to keep in fashion – and within budget.
